ATypI Tokyo 2019 は成功しました。皆様からいただきましたご支援とご助力に感謝いたします。ありがとうございます。閉会の際のスピーチの中のひとつとして私が話た内容を以下に記録しておきたいと思います。

ATypI Tokyo 2019のワークショップと会議が成功をおさめたことを知り嬉しく思います。参加していただいたことに心より感謝申し上げます。また、ATypIの役員各位ならびに日本のローカルチームのメンバーの方々、そしてヴォランティアの方々のご努力に感謝いたします。ご助力、ご支援いただきありがとうございました。タイポグラフィの技芸はこれまで、人々が互いに意思疎通を行い理解しあう手助をしてきました。悲しいことですが、タイポグラフィの技芸が憎しみを増幅する目的で用いられる場合があります。しかし、それは、ぞっとするほど嫌な例外とし見なすべきで、可能なら避けるべきです。タイプデザイナーとタイポグラファ―が文字の形態と字間のスペーシングのディテールに注意を払うのは、タイポグラフィが、書かれた言葉を正確に時空を超えて伝達できるだけでなく、それが貴重な美的体験を与え、人々を精神的に豊かにすることができるということを、彼らが理解しているからです。私たちは、世界中のタイポグラフィのエキスパートが、今日、タイポグラフィの新しい可能性をいかにして探求しているのか、そして、どのような重要な研究を今日にいたるまで行ってきたのかを知るために、ここに集いました。私たちは、タイポグラフィが未完のプロジェクトであることを知っています。そのプロジェクトを引き続き進めていきましょう。そして、世界をより良いものとするために、さらに前へ進みましょう。あらためて、みなさんのご参加に感謝いたします。みなさんにとって、この会議が思い出に残る良い経験となることを希望します。来年、パリでまたお会いしましょう。

I am very happy to know that the workshops and conference of ATypI Tokyo 2019 have been successful. I really appreciate your participation. Also, I appreciate all the effort made by the executive members of ATypI as well as the local team members in Japan, and the volunteers. Thank you for all the help and support.  The art of typography has helped people in the world communicate and understand each other. Sadly, there are cases where the art of typography is used to amplify hatred without reasons, but such usages should be taken as horrible exceptions, and should be avoided where possible.  The reason why type designers and typographers pay attention to subtle details of letter forms and letter-spacing is that they know that typography can not only convey written words faithfully beyond space and time, but also it can provide people with valuable aesthetic experiences, and make them spiritually richer.  We all gathered here to see how experts in typography in the world are exploring new possibilities of typography today, and what important researches they have made up until today.  We know that typography is an unfinished project. Let's continue to proceed with the project, and go forward to make this world better.  Thank you again for your participation. I hope this conference will be a good and memorable experience for everyone. See you in Paris next year.
